Vidya Vikasini Opportunity School for children with intellectual disabilities is a specialized referral institution established in 1981 in Coimbatore. The main objective of the institution is to promote education, training and rehabilitation of the Intellectual Disabled children.
Early Intervention Centre
Started in: 2008 Number of Children: 43
43 Children with various developmental problems are catered through Special Education & Sensory Therapies. The service focus on prevention, remediation, treatment of these children to foster all round development. We also offer child-centered and family oriented care provided by a multidisciplinary team of experts. The programme includes “Physio and Occupational Therapies, Group Therapy, Play Therapy, individualized guidance and counselling to parents,” thus providing a systematic programme of training.
Special Education
The students are categorized into Primary, Secondary, Pre-Vocational and Vocational. In addition to special education, the school offers academic training under the State Board syllabus in both “Tamil and English mediums”. The students are also provided coaching for class X and XII under the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) syllabus.

It is a residential and respite care home sponsored by the National Trust, Govt. of India, New Delhi. 30 students get benefit from the scheme.

Our school works as an institutional member of Local Level Committee, of National Trust under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India.
Breakfast Programme

Noon Meal Programme
Started in: 2006 Number of Children: 45
45 students benefit through this state government programme and noon meal is prepared in hygienic and nutritious way.
Adult Home for the Intellectual Disabled above 14 Years
Started in: 2008 Number of Children: 40
The Adult Home which was started in February 2008, is functioning successfully at No. 1 VSK Nagar, Vadamadurai, Coimbatore. At present 40 male residents benefit. The project is supported by the government of Tamil Nadu.
Bakery Unit
The inmates are preparing Biscuits, Bun, Bread, Puffs etc. Some students are also trained to work with oven. Both the above said units are sponsored by the Tamil Nadu Government.
Computer Training
Started in: 2014 Number of Children: 93
Those who have academic background are taught word processing. The students are given training in Notepad, MS-Word and Paint.
First in the state of Tamil Nadu to introduce “e-Saadhya”, a computer-based database and curriculum planning for special children with the collaboration of C-Dac (Centre for Development for Advanced Computing), Bangalore.
During the academic year, 93 students trained on learning through computers based on their intellectual capacity through the e-Saadhya project.
